East London offers Canary Wharf, a mixture of modern high rise office buildings and shops. Located in Tower Hamlet , a London Borough, Canary Wharf is home to 3 of London's tallest buildings, Citi Group Center, 8 Canada Square and London's tallest One Canada Square.
Resurrecting London's historical West India Docks on the Isle of the Dogs which were the world's largest docks from 1802 to their closing in the 1980's. Canary Wharf opened it's first building in 1991, One Canada Square. Today Canary Wharf is home to several banks, major law firms and media companies. Employing over 100,000 workers that live in the nearby buroughs on London's East Side.
Canary Wharf competes with London Center as a major financial center, has transformed the area from the onetime worlds busiest docks to that of a service industry in turn changing the economic geography of East London.
Access to Canary Wharf via London's Underground is by the Green Line and Canary Wharf Station, a seperate station is also located for the DLR or Docklands Light Rail at the Canary Wharf DLR Station.
